ORCHESTRAL +CLASSICAL MUSIC Gershon Kingsley is a self-taught pianist who is also classically trained. He began conducting small orchestras for summer stock theater in the 1950's and eventually moved on to Broadway shows. Through the years, however, he has also had the pleasure of being a guest conductor for several orchestras, including the Detroit and Indianapolis Symphonies, the Miami Summer Pops and the Munich and Cologne Radio Orchestras. And, though his own projects may venture far and wide, Kingsley's musical roots remain in classical, or "serious," music. It can be heard in much of his work from totally different genres; the edges begin to blur. You'll see, for example, that his dance hit "Popcorn" is here transformed and re-orchestrated by him into a lively orchestral work. But what has not been mentioned yet is that Kingsley has an extraordinary talent for piano improvisation. The audio clips below will speak for themselves.
