| THE IN SOUND FROM WAY OUT "The In Sound From Way Out" was a recording of remarkable prescience. For this project, Gershon Kingsley (who was the staff arranger at Vanguard Records) and Jean-Jacques Perrey spent months producing and organizing taped sounds from the natural world as well as electronic effects. From these small bits of audio tape, they assembled carefully synchronized loops which would serve as unique textural backgrounds for live musicians playing new musical arrangements and original compositions. The record also featured the Jenny Ondioline, a curious French keyboard instrument whose keys the player actually shook to produce an expressive vibrato effect on the sound. |
